Yellowknife (July 20/04) - Western Arctic MP-elect Ethel Blondin-Andrew will be back in cabinet once results of a recount are made official.

Prime Minister Paul Martin announced his new government team Tuesday. Blondin-Andrew was not sworn in with the rest of Martin's new ministers as her election was not yet assured due to a court-ordered recount.

That recount was called off earlier today. It's believed she will be Secretary of State for Indian and Northern Affairs, junior minister to Andy Scott, new Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

Scott represents Fredericton, New Brunswick, and was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993. He has served in several portfolios in cabinet, including Solicitor General from June 1997-November 1998 and Minister of State (Infrastructure) in 2003.

Nunavut MP Nancy Karetak-Lindell remains on the back benches. She was parliamentary secretary to the natural resources minister in the last Jean Chretien government. That job went to Yukon MP Larry Bagnell.
