Arctic Bay has a new role model

Arctic Bay (July 19/04) - Robby Qammaniq from Arctic Bay has been named one of six Aboriginal role models by the National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO) through its "Lead Your Way!" program.

Qammaniq, 23, is currently working towards a Bachelor of Science at Trent University and has his eye on medical school.

In all, 12 role models have been named by the NAHO this year, including Fauna Kingdon from Iqaluit, who was announced in the first group of six role models on June 21.

The role models will have their images printed on posters and trading cards, which will be handed out to schools across Canada.

Other role models named this year are: Jason Annahatak, Kangirsuk, Que.; Christopher Gruben, Inuvik, NT; Peter Kiatainaq, Kangiqsujuaq, Que.; Aronhiaies Herne, Akwesasne, Ont.; and Shanna LaFramboise, Saskatoon, Sask.

The "Lead Your Way!" program aims to highlight the accomplishments of Aboriginal youth aged 13-30.
