Inuvik (May 07/04) - Last Wednesday, town council voted in favour of the Inuvialuit Development Corporation's request to develop a lot for a new liquor store on Distributor Street.

The IDC, which has had the liquor outlet contract for the past seven years, was recently awarded a 10-year contract from the NWT Liquor Commission to operate a new facility in Inuvik.

IDC officials say the new location will offer improved parking and will combine the retail and warehouse operations.

Construction on the nearly 8,000 square foot, $1.5 million project is expected to begin mid-May.

The opening date has been set for Oct. 1.
