Fort Smith (May 03/04) - A delegation from the Suncor oil sands project in Fort McMurray will visit Fort Smith this summer.

Mayor Peter Martselos invited the company to come see his community and explore economic opportunities.

"It's about creating a working relationship with them," says Martselos of the June 21-22 visit.

The mayor says the Suncor officials will check out Aurora College for possible training opportunities. "The college is priority Number 1."

The delegation will also explore whether Fort Smith might be a location where Suncor employees could reside while working on the oil sands project.

It will be the first visit by Suncor officials to Fort Smith.

Martselos says the details of who will visit from the company have yet to be determined, but he has been told the delegation will consist of four officials.

The mayor says he's pleased Suncor accepted his invitation.

"I'm very happy, because I consider Fort McMurray very close to Fort Smith."
