Yellowknife (May 26/04) - A thoughtless snowmobiler damaged a portion of green #7 at the Yellowknife Golf Club sometime this winter.

Trevor Maywood, golf professional and general manager at the club, is convinced this was an act of vandalism.

"It's absolutely deliberate," Maywood said.

The snowmobiler rode through the orange snow fence surrounding the green before tearing up the ground with the snow machine's tread.

The greens at the course are made of nylon fibers says Maywood. Course workers will wait until the snow melts before attempting any repairs.

The damaged green will not put a damper on plans for the golf tournament this weekend.

"What will affect the tournament is the minus two out there," Maywood said.

Citizens with information on the incident are encouraged to contact the RCMP.
