Time is on our side

Norma Budden-Aningat
Guest columnist Kivalliq News

It seems like only yesterday when my daughters, Kelsey and Courtney, were born, although it's been nine and four years, respectively.

It also seems I've gone from changing diapers to teaching my girls to cook overnight.

What about the time in between?

Where has it gone?

What have I done with my time?

Has it been wasted or used wisely?

Have I been selfish of my time, or giving of it, freely, to others?

More importantly, what lessons have my children learned through time?

Showing them the road

As they live at home during their young lives, do I take the time necessary to help them when they require assistance?

Do I instill in them important values to live by?

Do I realize my children learn by the examples set before them and take the time to be sure I am setting a positive example which they can follow?

Many of us spend a great deal of time in an environment outside of our home.

We work at various jobs and often work five days a week, if not more.

In fact, we spend a greater number of waking hours with our co-workers than we do with our own families.

How do our fellow employees see us using our time?

Do they see us wasting it and wonder how we continue to keep our jobs?

Do they feel let down when we receive more money, even though they may feel they worked hard and we didn't?

We can be certain the clock will continue ticking.

Time continues to pass us by and, when a moment or a day has passed, what we've done can't be altered or reversed.

Time has slipped by

A moment of time has slipped by and become part of our past.

Whether our actions have been nurturing or neglectful -- whether words have been spoken with love or hatred -- time continues passing by.

Time doesn't know about the guilt and shame our actions and words sometimes cause. Nor does it realize when we must continually apologize because of those words and actions.

Take for granted

Time is certainly something many of us take for granted.

We fail to realize how much can be accomplished in a short period of time.

We don't realize how much time can be wasted in going about our daily activities, especially when we're tired and it takes twice as long to perform a task as usual.

We guarantee ourselves that tomorrow will come. But what if it doesn't?

Will the seeds we've sown with our time reap eternal life or eternal damnation?

Until next time, Norma.
