Inuvik (Apr 23/04) - Last Saturday, Northmart shoppers opened their wallets and their hearts for the Inuvik Food Bank.

As part of the food bank's Easter promotional event, customers were asked if they wanted to add $2 to their grocery bills, money that would go towards the food bank.

To the tune of $632, the customers responded and for Doug Robertson of the food bank, the donation couldn't have come at a more timely occasion.

"After any holiday is always a difficult time for us," said Robertson of the bank's efforts to always keep its shelves stocked.

And several customers didn't stop at donating two bucks.

"There were many $4, $10 and even a few $20 donations," said Murphy of the generosity of Saturday's shoppers.

As for the smooth collection, Murphy credits Northmart staff.

"The cashiers did all the work."
