Yellowknife (Apr 21/04) - From the original six NHL teams to trapping in the Northwest Territories, this week's Heritage Fair has it all.

The Territories' segment of the nation-wide event runs Wednesday to Friday this week at William McDonald School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"We get students who literally can't wait to get going on this," said event co-ordinator Sean Daly.

Open to the general public, each day showcases 50 different projects done by students in Grades 4 to 9 from across the territories dealing with history, culture and Canadian heritage. The displays on April 21 will be in French.

A similar event is being held in Inuvik. Daly is happy about the fair's expansion.

"We've been able to move out of Yellowknife and into the different communities because that's where you're going to find stories that aren't in the history books yet," he said.

Entries are judged on criteria such as appearance, originality and time and effort involved.

Five students will be selected to join 165 others from across Canada on a trip to Montreal for a week-long history camp this summer.
