Yellowknife (Apr 14/04) - The Bible from Genesis to Revelations will be read aloud during Yellowknife's first marathon reading session.

The reading will begin at 7 a.m. and end at 9 p.m. each day from May 19 - 28 in the Salvation Army Chapel.

Jim Lynn, chair of public relations for the event, said the goal is to "get as many people reading in as many languages possible."

"We also want to broaden beyond our regular church-goers and welcome everyone to read," Lynn said.

He said interest in reading has been shown from schools and local dignitaries, such as the mayor, MLAs and premier.

Lynn said people of the Jewish and Islam faith are also being asked to participate.

He said it is hoped the event will "bring an awareness of the power of God's word."

"There is so much truth, good sense and basic knowledge contained within the Bible," he said of the incentive to participate.

Readers are invited to read passages for between five and 15 minutes.

Bibles will be provided, or you can bring your own, Lynn said.

The event is hosted by the Yellowknife Ministerial Association in association with the Canadian Bible Society.
