Shooting suspect in court

Northern News Services

Yellowknife (Mar 08/04) - A Qikiqtarjuaq man faces 15 charges after a shooting incident involving two police officers.

Titusie Audlakiak is accused of shooting at Constables Steve Thorne and Dale Lewis with a .22 riffle.

Audlakiak was in Nunavut Criminal Court on March 3 to face the 15 counts. The charges include attempted murder, assault with a weapon and discharging a firearm with intent to harm.

The incident occurred on Jan. 27 in Qikiqtarjuaq.

Const. Chris Coles, media liaison for the RCMP, said the two officers received a call about a person discharging a firearm.

It is alleged that when Lewis and Thorne responded to the call, Audlakiak fired his rifle at them.

Audlakiak's next court appearance is scheduled for March 11. It's expected a date for a preliminary hearing will be set at that time.
