Yellowknife (Mar 31/04) - Police have arrested a 24-year-old Yellowknife man in connection with a home invasion at a downtown apartment complex Saturday night.

Officers say a man kicked in the door of one of the Ptarmigan Apartments at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday armed with what Insp. Paul Richards described as a "large" knife.

According to police, the man demanded money from the residents and then fled the scene, threatening a security guard with the knife as he left the building. No one was injured in the robbery.

A suspect was picked up by police about an hour later at a convenience store on 50th Street. Richards said police found a knife on him at the time of the arrest.

Richards said the suspect knew the residents and that the robbery was not random.

David James Angohiatok, 24, has been charged with robbery and break and enter of a dwelling house in connection with the incident. He could also face more charges in the coming days, said Richards.

Angohiatok appeared in front of a Justice of the Peace on Sunday afternoon and has been remanded into police custody until a court appearance next month.
