Trustee Debbi Ross brought forward a motion at a regular board meeting Wednesday night to adjust the 2003/2004 budget, after the district received news the GNWT would be giving them an extra $235,000.
YCS appealed for more funding in August based on extraordinary enrollment numbers across its three schools.
Wednesday's motion included an increase of $50,000 for the territorial schools data collection project, as well as $185,000 to deal with added expenses resulting from the increased enrollment.
Mike Huvenaars, assistant superintendent of business, said the cash is needed to reach the 5-10 per cent recommended operating surplus YCS failed to reach in its last budget.
"We're just trying to build our accumulated surplus.
"It's sort of a rainy day fund," he said following the meeting.
The March 2004 financial report was accepted unanimously.
Members of the board are planning a way to publicly acknowledge the work and accomplishments of the parent advisory committees from the district's three schools as well as the work of the YCS chapter of Canadian Parents for French.
