Crime watch: 21 assaults in downtown

Yellowknife (Mar 24/04) - From March 8-21, Yellowknife RCMP responded to 470 calls for service.

One report of a robbery was received where a youth was kicked and had his watch, chain and cigarettes taken. No persons have been charged in this incident to date.

One hundred and thirty three of these complaints were to assist with intoxicated persons. Thirty-three complaints of assaults were received, including common fights and domestic disputes.

Eight impaired driving complaints were received. One person was charged and one person was issued a 24-hour driver's licence suspension.

Three thefts from motor vehicles were reported. Items taken included pizza, money and compact discs.

Eleven residential break-ins were reported, and 14 business break-ins were reported.

Six motor vehicle accidents were reported. Four included damage over $1,000, and two included damage under $1,000.

Six complaints of possession of cannabis were received. Four people were charged with possession as a result.

Three complaints of sexual assault were received.

Eight complaints of stolen vehicles/snowmobiles were received. One case remains outstanding. A 1998 yellow MXZ 583 with Yellowknife City licence plate 6085 was stolen from 52 Avenue and 51 Street.

Three complaints of shoplifting were received.

Eleven traffic tickets were handed out.
