Iqaluit (Mar 22/04) - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is not planning to investigate an incident where an airplane door opened suddenly during a March 7 Kenn Borek Air Ltd. flight.

The plane was enroute from Cape Dorset to Iqaluit with eight passengers at the time of the incident.

John Cottreau, public affairs officer for the safety board, said they were satisfied with the report they received.

"It was a small mechanical problem with the door," he said. "We don't feel the need to investigate."

Cottreau said, from the reports, it appears the door wasn't closed properly. When the cabin started to pressurize, it opened up.

Steve Penikett, general manager of Kenn Borek Air, said there was nothing wrong with the aircraft and it was just a mistake.

"The door wouldn't have opened if it was closed properly," he said. "As soon as the door opened, the pilot turned around and landed the plane."

Officials said none of the passengers or crew were injured in the incident.
