Yellowknife (Mar 19/04) - Painter Antoine Mountain set up his own Web site in December and he said it's something every artist should consider.

"It's one of the tools, like a camera," he said.

"It's expensive to work with, but if you sell one or two extra paintings, it's worth it."

Mountain travelled to Siberia last fall, and his Web site (www.amountainarts.com) keeps him in contact with people he met there.

"I've had e-mails from different Indian clubs over there," said Mountain.

"People are asking about powwows and Dene culture, and the Great Slave Lake area."

It's even helped people closer to home track him down. A teacher who attended one of his workshops contacted him through the Web site to ask him to visit the high school in Fort Smith.

Mountain has examples of his work up on the Web site for visitors to browse through.

"Lots of people don't have time to go to galleries," he said.

He's working on setting up links with other sites, such as Francoise Jaussoin's chronicle of her life in Yellowknife at www.grands-nords.com.
