Adults get chance to relearn language

Inuvik (Mar 19/04) - Adults will get to learn like kids during a first-ever adult On The Land program starting this month.

Inuvialuit language teachers Rosie Albert and Renie Arey will be taking six adults out on the land for a week.

There they will speak only Inuvialuktun while doing cultural activities like snaring, skinning and snowshoeing.

"We hope to draw on people who have a fluent understanding but are too shy or too rusty to speak it," said Pat Winfield, co-ordinator for the funding body -- the Inuvialuit Cultural Resource Centre.

"(The language) is there and if they express it, it will come back."

The free camp runs from March 24 to 31. For more information contact the cultural resource centre in Inuvik.
