Cape Dorset (Feb 09/04) - Various community groups in Cape Dorset are frustrated they can't use the community hall for all their fundraising activities because the hall is being used for the Salamonie Jaw murder trial.

Jaw is charged with first degree murder in the death of Const. Jurgen Seewald. Jaw's trial is currently ongoing and is expected to last three weeks.

Groups who use the hall for dances and other events include the volleyball teams, which are heading to Qikitarjuaq for a tournament on Feb. 19.

"We have enough money to cover the airfare," said coach Leon Nason.

"But a significant chunk of fundraising was dances."

They usually raised about $500 per dance on the weekend.

Nason figures they've lost $3,000 in fundraising since the trial began.
