"We were a little nervous," he said. "But it all worked out in the end."
Back in November, organizers had to stretch the deadline by two weeks due to a number of workplace campaigns slow to conclude.
Once everything was counted, just more than $75,000 was raised, which met the target set by organizers.
"We are extremely happy with the generosity of Yellowknifers this year," said Haywood. "Support through the community through the United Way is gaining momentum."
Now that the money has been raised, it is up to the United Way's Community Investment Committee to decide where it will go. The committee will be calling for proposals from different organizations interested in requesting the funding, he said.
