Election hopefuls ready

Iqaluit (Feb 02/04) - Candidates running for president and 2nd vice-president in the Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. elections, being held Mar. 16, have put their names forward.

When the nomination period closed Jan. 26, eight candidates were vying for the top two positions.

The candidates for president are Archie Angnakak, Iqaluit; Paul Kaludjak, Rankin Inlet; Ben Kovic, Iqaluit; and current president Cathy Towtongie, Rankin Inlet.

Nominees for 2nd vice-president are Stanley Anablak, Kugluktuk; Jeannie Evalik, Cambridge Bay; Raymond Ningeocheak, Rankin Inlet; and Hezekiah Oshutapik, Pangnirtung.

Ningeocheak, Kaludjak and Towtongie held positions on the NTI executive previously.

To be eligible to vote you must be an Inuit Canadian citizen, eligible to enroll under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and older than the age of 16.
