Yellowknife (Feb 25/04) - Three Yellowknife men have been arrested after a 25-year-old man was beaten and had to be medevaced to an Edmonton Hospital late last week.

David Brownlee, 27, has been charged with aggravated assault. Two other men have been arrested by police but have yet to be formally charged in connection with the incident.

The victim sustained serious head injuries when he was attacked outside a residence on Sissons Court at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.

He was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital before being medevaced to Edmonton, said RCMP Const. Kerri Riehl. Contrary to some media reports, police said there was no standoff at the Sissons Court residence.

"When we showed up, there was nobody left except for (the victim)," said Riehl.

Brownlee was expected to appear in territorial court Monday afternoon. The other two suspects are scheduled to make their first court appearances on May 4.
