RCMP introduce trading cards

Fort Simpson (Feb 20/04) - The RCMP launched a series of trading cards last week that it hopes will get kids to put down their Yu-Gi-Ohs.

The set, unveiled Friday in Fort Simpson, features 20 members of the Northwest Territories RCMP in their formal dress.

Each card also contains a biographical sketch of the officer, outlining everything from their home town, to their favourite food.

The set was created to provide kids across the NWT with positive role models, said Const. Dino Norris whose favourite food -- according to his card -- is a chicken wrap.

"It's important that kids have someone to look up to," said Norris.

"It allows them to realize that they can do anything with their lives."

If the reaction of 14-year-old Jordan McMillan-Wood is any indication, the cards will be quite popular.

"They're really neat," said Wood, who received one of the first sets made available to the public.

"I'm not going to give mine up."

The cards will be distributed throughout the NWT in the coming weeks.
