Yellowknife (Dec 03/03) - A Yellowknife man facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of his wife has been re-arrested for breaching his bail conditions.

Ian Adam Kirby, 59, was picked up by police in the Kam Lake area on Nov. 29 after they received a complaint from an unidentified witness.

Kirby made a brief appearance before a justice of the peace the next day and was then remanded into custody.

A show-cause hearing will be held later this week to determine whether Kirby will be granted bail again.

Kirby's wife, Betsy Kalaserk-Kirby, was found dead in the couple's ground floor apartment on Sept. 30.

Police arrested Kirby later that afternoon at a downtown bar and charged him with murder.

On Nov. 13, Kirby was granted bail on the condition that he abide by a number of restrictions.

A court-ordered ban prohibits publishing the details of the bail hearing.

Kirby is awaiting a preliminary hearing, which will be held sometime in the new year.
