Clyde River (Oct 06/03) - Loasie Tassugat, fire chief of the Clyde River Volunteer Fire Department, said he is looking forward to the department's new home.

After a few delays with materials, construction on the new fire hall has been moving very quickly and should be completed by December.

"It will be nice to have our hall back," said Tassugat. "Everyone is very excited."

"The pilings are in the ground and the walls are going up as we speak," added Denis Simard, senior administrative officer for the Hamlet.

The community has been without a firehall since the old one was destroyed by fire in January.

The department has already replaced the fire truck and equipment lost. Soon they will have a place to store it all.

Since January the department has been using a hamlet garage to store the truck.

The fire chief said the community is thankful for the new facility.

"This is going to help us out a lot," he added.

Luckily, there haven't been too many calls for assistance since the beginning of the year.

Tassugat explained that it has been fairly quiet, which has made the wait a little easier. "Most of the phone calls we've received have been wrong numbers," he said.

Simard said the cost of the construction is over $1 million.
