Time to get out your T-shirt

Iqaluit (Oct 27/03) - Record warm temperatures have been making some Northerners feel like wearing t-shirts when they are normally putting on parkas.

In Iqaluit, Pond Inlet, Resolute Bay and Hall Beach October has been more like June.

"For a brief spell there we had about two days of nice weather," said Colin Saunders in Pond Inlet. "But people are waiting for the snow to fall so they can get on their ski-doos."

Iqaluit recorded 6.2 C last Tuesday, while Pond Inlet basked in 3.3 C temperatures on the same day.

Hall Beach was just about one degree last Monday, tying a record high set on that day in 1980.

Last Saturday Resolute Bay experienced a balmy -0.4, beating the old record of -1.2 set in 2002 on the same day.

But it was still not warm enough to get people in Resolute thinking about summer again.

"It's been cloudy, snowy and windy from the south, so maybe that's why the temperature was up," said Martha Kalluk, SAO in Resolute Bay. "But it's not so good that you want to be outside."

Was anyone tempted to put on a t-shirt and shorts in Resolute last week?

"No way," laughed Kalluk.
