Yellowknife (Oct 24/03) - Pull up a chair at an international dinner table in Yellowknife, Nov. 6, and help rid the world of landmines.

Jane Leblanc is hosting the first Night of 1,000 Dinners to tell residents about the dangers of landmines.

And Leblanc is one of at least 1,000 people who will be hosting such a dinner worldwide.

"We will raise funds and help the victims of landmines," Leblanc said.

From Paul and Heather McCartney to Adrienne Clarkson and Colin Powell, people all over the world are participating in a symbolic gesture of unity -- one to rid war-torn countries of devastating landmines.

The dinner will be held at the Department of National Defence building.

The former Canadian ambassador to Cambodia, Gordon Longmuir of Vancouver, will speak about his experiences in the Southeast Asian country.

As well as the fundraising dinner, there will be a silent auction during the evening.

One special item of interest Leblanc is donating is a rug made in Afghanistan that depicts the weapons of war.
