Antoine asks Nault to act

Yellowknife (Oct 22/03) - The territorial government is stepping in to try and mend the tense situation at the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board.

The dismissal of board member Gordon Wray two weeks ago, along with the "ignored" vote of non-confidence in chair Todd Burlingame has infuriated other board members.

Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development Minister Jim Antoine wrote a letter to Indian and Northern Affairs Minister Robert Nault urging him to take immediate action.

"I am requesting that you take action to ensure that there are enough members to form a quorum and that the board be given time to conduct an internal investigation," he wrote in a letter, dated Oct. 8.
