Fort Resolution (Oct 13/03) - Amy Miersch is the lone member of Deninu school's class of '03.

However, the Fort Resolution school held a full-fledged graduation ceremony on Friday to celebrate Miersch's success.

"It made me really nervous since I'm the only one graduating," Miersch said. "It's an overwhelming experience to be the centre of attention."

She says it is great to graduate where she has gone to school all along. "The support of friends and teachers from the community made a big difference."

The graduation ceremonies are held in the fall so the school can confirm diploma exam results.

Miersch is the seventh graduate in Fort Resolution since the introduction of Grade 12 in the community in the late 1990s.

"As a school and as a community, we are extremely proud of Amy's achievements to date, and we wish her all the best for what her future holds," said Deninu School principal Moh Odeen.

Curtis Brown, the superintendent of education with the South Slave Divisional Education Council, echoed Odeen's sentiments.

"I can't help but share in the pride that the community has for Amy," Brown said. Along with close to 100 members of the community, the graduation ceremony was attended by Loretta Foley, deputy minister of education, and Tu Nedhe MLA Steven Nitah.
