Iqaluit (Oct 13/03) - She looks like any ordinary teenager. She goes to school, gets in trouble for talking too much and has lots of energy.

But there is one big thing that separates Lauren Solski from other teenagers and that is her job.

How many 13-year-olds can say they have their own weekly radio show? Solski can.

For a month now she has been hosting her own show on Raven Rocks.

"It's really cool. I love working on the radio," she said. "I talk a lot, so it's good that I'm on the radio.

Solski said it's hard to believe that she is on the radio and she is only in Grade 8 at Inuksuk high school.

"They were advertising for a DJ so I sent in my resume and I got the job," she explained. "I love music so this is great."

Solski is definitely on the right path to achieving her goals. Her plan is to become a famous actress.

"I already have my life planned out," she said.

Just chillin'

The best part Solski said about working on the radio is the fact that her appearance doesn't matter.

"It doesn't really matter what I wear to work. I try to be comfortable," she said. "Once I came to work in my pajamas."

Being able to talk and listen to music for two hours is also a great perk.

Solski admitted that the first time she went on air she was a little nervous, but that feeling wore off really quickly. Her acting skills she picked up at school helped combat her fears.

"It's like I'm having one long conversation. I like talking to people and hanging out in the room," she said.

From 7 to 9 p.m. Solski and DJs Terri Chegwyn or Glenn Craig spend their time playing music, talking to callers and giving away prizes. As she describes it, she's "chillaxing," which means she's chilling out and relaxing.

"I love working with Terri and Glenn. We all just try to have fun," she said. She explained that the show is geared more towards teens so she tries to use some of the lingo that teens are using. To prepare for her show she spends a lot of time surfing the Web looking for entertainment news and watching MuchMusic.
