Yellowknife (Sep 05/03) - A man claiming to be the son of Prince Charles allegedly assaulted a police officer after being forcibly removed from territorial court Tuesday.

After several loud outbursts, including claims that "Charles is my father," the man was removed from court by security personnel.

On his way down to a holding area, the man reportedly assaulted an RCMP officer and had to be forcefully subdued.

According to reports, paramedics were called to check on the man, but his injuries were not serious.

RCMP Sgt. Steve McVarnock said the officer wasn't injured and the man will face a series of charges when he reappears in court today.

The man was in court Tuesday facing two charges, one for assault and another for criminal harassment.

During the hearing the man addressed Judge Brian Bruser directly several times.

"Charles is my father. I'm not taking this bullshit," he yelled.

After several outbursts Bruser ordered the man be taken into custody.

"I'm not going in there," shouted the man.

"I'm not trying to cause any trouble here," he continued. "Charles is my father.

"He is in dire need of help," said Bruser.

The man was later transferred to RCMP headquarters and is expected to undergo a psychological evaluation.
