Yellowknife (Sep 22/03) - The nominees have been officially announced for the upcoming town council elections in Hay River and Fort Smith.

There are two nominees for mayor in Hay River: Diane Ehman and Peter Mahar, both currently councillors.

There are nine nominees for eight seats on Hay River council. They are incumbents Dean McMeekin, Vern Tordoff, Michael Mahar, Robert Bouchard, Glen Smart and Thomas Hamilton, along with Vincent McKay, Ronald Cook and Harvey Werner.

In Fort Smith, there are also two nominees for mayor - incumbent Peter Martselos and Fred Daniels.

The nominees for council are incumbents Marion Berls, Beckie Linaker, Tim McDonald and Earl John Olsen, along with Jenny Belyea, Pat Burke, Bruce Gordier, Simon Haaima, Allan K. Heron, Duncan MacPherson, Ram Mudalier, Henry Sinclair Sr. and Westly Steed.

There will also be an election for the Hay River District Education Authority. Nominations have been extended to Sept. 22, since only five people have put their names forward for the seven DEA seats.

The nominees are David MacDonald, Andrew Butler, Janine Kipling, Brian Roy and Candis Jameson.
