Yellowknife (Sep 22/03) - If you're planning on being a part of the Arctic Winter Games mission staff for the NWT this year you better have a clean rap-sheet.

Sport North has added a new requirement that all mission staff, coaches and managers must submit to a criminal records check.

Gail Nesbitt, of marketing with Sport North, said the policy is being added into their handbook.

The change has not been made public yet, but there isn't expected to be any problems.

"People in certain sports are used to doing that," said Rob Meckling, sports consultant with Sport North.

Kyle Seely, with Sport Nunavut, said their organization has been making their games staff submit to a criminal record check for at least the last two games.

"It's standard practice with us. These people are working with kids." he said.
