Nominations for trustees open Aug. 29.
Mildred Wilke, a current board trustee, has served one term for the school board, and is planning to run again.
"I have something to offer," says Wilke.
Wilke has dealt with issues such as increased literacy in schools and the Mildred Hall renovation project.
The longest serving member of the board is not sure if he is throwing his hat in for another term.
Terry Brookes would be entering his fourth term as trustee if he ran again.
"You always need something to keep you motivated," says Brookes, adding that he is not sure yet if upcoming issues are areas of interest for him.
Retired social worker Ann Enge, will not run for another term due to a health condition. Enge is finishing her first term with the board, and regrets not being able to continue.
Seven positions are available for the Oct. 20 election, including chairperson. The newly elected members select the chairperson following the election.
Trustees receive a $5,000 honorarium per year to serve on the board, while the chairperson receives an additional $2,000.
Interested individuals must meet the requirements of the Local Authorities Election Act to run for the trustee position, including residing in Yellowknife 12 months prior to the election, being 18 years of age, and being a Canadian citizen.
Applicants have until Sept. 15 to submit applications. Trustee information packages are available at the Yellowknife 1 district board office on Franklin Avenue.
