Safe businesses recognized

Yellowknife (July 21/03) - Businesses across the North were recognized for their efforts at promoting safety in the workplace.

During the North American Occupational Safety and Health Week in May, companies who undertake workplace safety activities throughout the year were asked to enter an employer recognition contest.

In the Northwest Territories, Inuvik Gas Ltd. was recognized for the fourth year in a row.

Federal Joint Sealing Company of Canada and the GNWT department of public works and services were also commended.

A new category for first time entrants was also introduced.

Northwestern Air Lease of Fort Smith, BHP Billiton's Ekati mine and Northland Utilities in Yellowknife were all recognized.

In Nunavut, Iqaluit Housing Authority was recognized for its efforts.

The Nunavut Power Corporation was recognized twice, for its Iqaluit bureau and Taloyoak office.
