The Yellowknife company took part in the employer recognition contest held in May for the North American Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week.
"It was quite an honour to be chosen by the WCB. Our team takes health and safety seriously. We were very pleased to be selected. It's great to see some rewards for our work. I think we will be doing this again," said Jerome Babyn, manager with Northland Utilities.
The company, which provides distribution, transmission and generation of electricity throughout the NWT, held a high voltage display for about 200 people during NAOSH Week.
They also have a Web site that provides electrical safety training for school kids and allows teachers to access a safety guide.
Northland Utilities also has an office in Hay River, which has been recognized in the same contest in the past. That office did not participate this year.
The contest was aimed at employers in the NWT and Nunavut who undertake workplace safety activities throughout the year and during NAOSH Week.
