Hall Beach (July 14/03) - Twenty students have eight weeks of work on hamlet projects.

With renovations being done to the airport, various construction projects on the go and a clean up about to take place, the hamlet needed some extra help.

"It's the second year of our student employment program," said the community's senior administrator, Mark Hall.

Student workers must be between the ages of 15-30 and be in secondary or post-secondary school.

Hall said the project not only gives youth the opportunity to make some money of their own, but gives them something productive to do with their time while they are not in school.

Work at the Hall Beach airport is aimed to make it more attractive to tourists and more beneficial to residents. A new snack bar is being built, as are showcases for artists to display their works.

Students will help with the work by painting the airport.

"We also received $5,000 in funding from the Canadian Coast Guard to clean up our beach and dock area," said Hall.

The majority of the funding for the student employment project comes from the Kakivak Association.
