Students off to Ottawa

Exchange for kids with disabilities

Yellowknife (June 27/03) - Two NWT students are leaving for Ottawa today to take part in Canada Day Youth exchange.

Scott Richardson of Yellowknife and Rambo Dryneck of Rae-Edzo will spend a week in the capital region camping, playing sports, and touring Parliament Hill.

The trip is sponsored by the Active Living Alliance, a group that helps Canadians with disabilities lead healty and active lives.

"It's going to be amazing," said Richardson, a grade 10 student at Sir John Franklin High School. "I'm looking forward to meeting people from across the country."

Nearly 100 kids from 80 Canadian communities will participate in the exchange, which includes a night with the members of the Ottawa Senators Alumni Association, leadership training and activities like rock climbing, sledge hockey and dancing.

"I'm excited to go," said Dryneck, a 17-year-old student at Chief Jimmy Bruneau High School.

Richardson and Dryneck will return July 4.
