Inuvik Drum wins newspaper prize

Yellowknife (May 09/03) - The Inuvik Drum and its sister newspapers in the Deh Cho and Yellowknife have won major awards in a recent Alberta region newspaper contest.

Inuvik Drum (editor Terry Halifax) finished third for Best Front Page in its circulation class in the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association Better Newspapers Competition.

Deh Cho Drum (editor Derek Neary) finished second in the same competition.

Yellowknifer finished second in the Best All Around Newspaper category in its class. With that placing, the newspaper goes on to compete in the Canadian Community Newspapers Association national competition.

Yellowknifer placed for Best Editorial page in its circulation class.

Publisher Jack (Sig) Sigvaldason was in Red Deer to accept the awards, sponsored by the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board.

All three newspapers are owned by Northern News Services, a Northern-owned, Yellowknife-based newspaper company.

They are printed by Canarctic Graphics Ltd.
