Yellowknifer honoured

Yellowknife (May 07/03) - Yellowknifer and its sister papers in the Deh Cho and Inuvik have won major awards in a recent Alberta region newspaper contest.

Yellowknifer finished second in the Best All Around Newspaper category in its circulation class in the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association Better Newspapers Competition. With that placing, the newspaper goes on to compete in the Canadian Community Newspapers Association national competition.

Yellowknifer won for Best Editorial page in its circulation class.

The Deh Cho Drum and Inuvik Drum newspapers were also honoured for their front pages.

Deh Cho Drum (editor Derek Neary) finished second for Best Front Page in its class. Inuvik Drum (editor Terry Halifax) finished third in the same competition.

Publisher Jack (Sig) Sigvaldason was in Red Deer to accept the awards, sponsored by the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board.

All three newspapers are owned by Northern News Services, a Northern-owned, Yellowknife-based newspaper company.

They are printed by Canarctic Graphics Ltd.
