Two fires Sunday night

Yellowknife (Apr 21/03) - Yellowknife firefighters put out two fires Sunday night.

At 11 p.m., a car was on fire on the Ingraham Trail near the old car racing track.

According to Lieut. Mike Dunsmore, the car was too far gone to determine how the fire started.

But the car's licence plate was not registered to the vehicle, said Dunsmore, and he suspects the driver had been racing around the track.

Earlier in the evening, around 8 p.m., firefighters put another fire in a dumpster behind Ecole St. Joseph. Dunsmore said dumpster fires typically start because someone sets them or because of discarded cigarettes.

No one was injured in either fire.
