Yellowknife (Apr 11/03) - A trustee "how-to" package is now available at the Yellowknife Education District 1 board offices.

"We encourage people to come forward early and declare themselves a candidate," said Judith Knapp, superintendent of education.

Knapp hopes to drum up interest before people leave for the summer.

Included in the package is a new School Trustees pamphlet highlighting responsibilities and board goals. After months of development the in-house publication is now available for release although some trustees aren't happy about it.

"There needs to be more work done on this," said trustee Dan Schofield during a regular board meeting Tuesday.

"It's about ownership. Trustees trying to encourage more trustees to come on board."

The brochure is based on similiar editions in Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba. The next election is in October. Trustees serve a three-year term.
