Cambridge Bay (Mar 03/03) - The Cambridge Bay food bank is out of food.

Mayor Keith Peterson on behalf of hamlet council has been making appeals for donations, Feb. 27, to continue helping the 60 families and individuals who've come to rely on the bank.

"If you can donate a little bit to help the food bank in food and/or cash, you will be helping those people who need help the most," the mayor says.

Tax receipts will be given to cash donations.

"I'm sorry we have to ask for your help, but we really need your support so we can make sure people can get some food to eat," Peterson says.

Some champions have already stepped forward.

One person who wishes to remain anonymous donated $1,500. A Cambridge Bay business has indicated it may also chip in.

"Hopefully the good folks of Cambridge Bay will help out," the mayor says.

Cash and cheques can be dropped off at the hamlet office. Food donations can be taken to the Wellness Centre.
