Woman accused of stabbing mother at Simpson health centre

Fort Simpson (Mar 21/03) - A Fort Simpson woman has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at the health centre on Tuesday.

RCMP Sgt. Brian Winters said the Fort Simpson detachment were alerted by one of the "many" witnesses around 9:30 a.m. that a woman stabbed a health centre employee. Police arrested a women at the scene without further incident, Winters said.

The sergeant said the woman arrested is the daughter of the victim.

Winters would not disclose the extent of the victim's injuries. The employee was medevaced to Edmonton and was in stable condition on Tuesday.

Samantha Cazon, 19, appeared before a justice of the peace Tuesday evening and was ordered to be held in custody for three days.

She is scheduled to appear before the justice of the peace again Friday, Winters noted.

The health centre was closed for the remainder of the day on Tuesday but re-opened on Wednesday.
