Yellowknife (Mar 21/03) - As one arena, the Multiplex, finally opens and prepares to get a new name, another faces the wrecking ball.

There is still no date set for the demolition of the Gerry Murphy Arena.

The plan is to tear the 50-year old arena down this year, said Grant White, the city's recreation director. "But there's been nothing formalized as to what's going on the site following the demolition."

The demolition will cost $235,000 -- $60,000 to tear it down, $75,000 for removal, and $100,000 for cleaning up the site.
