Two suspects arrested for rash of break-ins

Iqaluit (Mar 17/03) - Stolen electronics, DVDs, liquor bottles, lottery tickets and other personal items have been recovered following an investigation by RCMP dating back before Christmas.

The search warrant was executed in the 300 district of Iqaluit. RCMP would not specify which home.

Const. Ben Williams said the successful conclusion of the investigation, which led to the arrest of two men is, in part, due to cooperation with the community.

A 21-year-old suspect has been charged with 12 counts of break and enter. Another 30-year-old has been charged with 14 counts of fraud and five counts of break and enter.

The two men are allegedly responsible for a number of break and enters into Iqaluit residences, the Association des Francophone du Nunavut, the public health building, Baffin Flowers and Gifts and the liquor warehouse on two occasions.

Williams said the items that have been recovered will be returned to their owners once charges against the pair have been resolved.

The two men are in custody awaiting their next court appearance, April 8.
