Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement are eligible to use the $100,000 fund starting April 1. The Nunatuqaminut (traditional lands) travel program was approved during Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.'s (NTI) board meeting, which was held in Cape Dorset Feb. 25-27.
Individuals can access up to $500 while groups are eligible for $5,000.
The goal of the program is to help beneficiaries maintain strong cultural connections to their homeland and family.
"We feel this program will enhance the ties between beneficiaries of the NLCA, no matter where they live," said Paul Kaludjak, vice- president of finance with NTI.
Paul Irngaut, executive liaison and public relations advisor with NTI, said a similar program was offered last year.
