Yellowknife (Feb 19/03) - Five diagnostic scopes are the focus of Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation's annual fundraising campaign.

"This is an opportunity for the foundation to campaign on prevention and early diagnoses," said foundation chair Daryl Dolynny, during the launch of the fundraiser at Centre Square Mall last Friday.

A crowd of more than 30 people lined up to get a free goody bag for a chance to win one of 10 free raffle tickets.

The goal of the fundraiser, called "Win a stone for Stanton," is to raise $200,000 to purchase a digital colposcope for Pap smears and optical diagnoses, a colonoscope for colon exams, a gastroscope for digestive problems, a nasopharyngoscope for ears, nose and throat cases, and a gystocope for bladder exams.

Raffle tickets are $20 each or six for $100. The winner will receive a 1.22 carat diamond appraised at more than $20,000 as well as $1,000 cash and a trip for two to Ekati diamond mine.

The diamond will be on display at Sasha's Jewellery for March and April and at Eldonn Jewellery in May and June. The draw will be held on July 1 at Somba K'e Family Park.
