$100K theft suspects in court

Northern News Services

Yellowknife (Jan 27/03) - Two people charged with stealing $100,000 from the Bank of Montreal and Canada Post in 2000 appeared in Fort Smith territorial court Jan. 22.

However, neither Curtis Martin, 25, nor Destiny Lepine, 23, entered pleas.

They will be back in court March 4.

Martin is charged with two counts of theft over $5,000 and two counts of theft of mail. Lepine faces two counts of possession of stolen property and two counts of possession of stolen mail.

Meanwhile, Jesse Plowman, 23, has had charges of theft of mail and possession of stolen property over $5,000 diverted to the Fort Smith Adult Justice Committee.

Sgt. Daryl Key of the Fort Smith RCMP says the charges were diverted because of Plowman's low level of involvement in the crime, and because he was co-operative with investigators. The Adult Justice Committee can order such things as restitution and community service. No criminal record results from appearing before the committee.
