Yellowknife (Jan 10/03) - The rules are simple: the team with the fastest hands and the most knowledge wins.

Many may remember a similar game from back in the day called Reach for the Top.

Students were asked questions and then had to be the fastest to ring in on the buzzer.

The name has changed, but the rules are the same.

The game is now called Smart Ask and St. Patrick High school competed in the competition for the second year.

The only team from the NWT, they headed to Toronto to compete in the single elimination tournament.

On the team are Andrew Matthews, Grade 12, Antonio Babic, Grade 10, and Elijah Forget-Manson, Grade 10.

The three earned a spot on the team after an in-school showdown where 15 students tried out.

Babic and Forget-Manson said the experience was a good one and they both want to do it again next year.

"I enjoy trivia and it brought exposure to the North," said Babic.

Forget-Manson called the competition a thrill: "It's my 15 minutes of fame."

The teams already know the results of the tournament, but the public can watch the students compete live on CBC North on Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. MST.

St. Pat's will square off against defending champions Kennebecasis from New Brunswick.

Inukshuk High School's match against Kate Andrews High from Alberta will also air on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.

Winning teams will advance to play one week later at the same time.
