He may not look lively enough to carry out good deeds but Woody the dog is travelling around the world educating and promoting global tolerance.
The small, stuffed dog began his journey nearly three years ago in Shanghai, China when he departed from Florence Nathan's Grade 2 classroom as a social studies project.
Nathan is a teacher at an international school in Shanghai.
Since his departure, Woody has travelled to Thailand, Oregon, Texas, Italy, Sweden and Ontario before arriving in Yellowknife.
The little dog came complete with a passport, postcards, photos, chopsticks and journals outlining his adventures.
There is now also one empty journal that Rose Marie Jackson's Grade 1 class, at Weledeh Catholic School, is in the process of filling out.
"They really like the idea of having ownership of his adventures. Each child has an opportunity to take Woody home and do interesting things with him," said Jackson.
So far, Woody has been to a swimming pool party, gone snowmobiling and toured the local post office.
"They're all having a lot of fun with it. He's been all over Yellowknife.
"He's even been to Tim Hortons," said Jackson.
Jackson said the dog's journeys promote cultural understanding, reading skills and creative writing.
Following his visit to Yellowknife, Woody will be off to warmer weather when he visits Tahiti and then off to the Czech Republic.
Woody will take his experiences of Yellowknife -- along with a few souvenirs -- with him to share with the rest of the world.
