Repulse Bay (Nov 06/02) - Repulse Bay youth received a top-notch pep talk and career presentation, courtesy of Warrant Officer Wayne Jure.

Repulse cadet leader and Tusarvik school principal Leonie Aissaoui says Jure was in Repulse for three days this past month to help the local cadet corps with its yearly program.

She says Jure helped in a number of areas during his stay, including spending time with two young cadet leaders who came up through the Repulse Bay corps.

"He (Jure) worked with both Randy Kopak and Solomon Malliki to give them a lot of pointers in helping to ensure they were on the right track with the cadet program," says Aissaoui.

Aissaoui's return to the position of Tusarvik school principal has led to Kopak and Malliki taking on many responsibilities with the corps this year. She says their efforts to date have been quite impressive.

"We have cadets at the school every night shining their boots and practising for the Remembrance Day ceremony. We're going to start range shooting very soon and we have two teams practising for the drill team competitions.

"It's as if the cadets have taken over the school because they're here all the time."

While in the community to work with the cadets, Jure was asked if he'd be willing to come to Tusarvik school and make a career presentation about the Canadian Armed Forces.

Jure agreed, and talked with grades seven through 12 about career choices.

"He gave a very good presentation which really had the students interested in the Forces. The students had many questions for him in each class after he finished his presentation."
